  The 1994 Reno Air Races

And Airshow

Hear The Engines As The Airplanes

Scream Around The Course

Hi,
My name is Craig Stanford. I've been crazy about airplanes ever since I was about three years old and air racing since I was about eight.. I finally got my pilot's license in 1978 and started going to airshows right away. I went to every airshow and air racing event that I could until I had a major sroke in October of 1994.

I still remember the first time that I saw and heard a P-51 at an airshow in 1979. The sight and sound of that P-51 is permanently etched in my mind. After that experience, I would judge an airshow partly by how many warbirds showed up.

After attending a lot of airshows,  I decided that the Reno Air Races and Airshow and the Abbotsford airshows were the best. I liked Abbotsford because the Canadian Ministry of Transport is a lot looser than the F.A.A.. I have a picture of one of the Blue Angels flying only 75 ft. above the Abbotsford main entrance. The F.A.A. would never let that happen in the U.S..

I have always liked the Reno and Airshow because of the Unlimiteds. Nowhere else in the world can you see and hear WWII fighters racing against each other. These airplanes can actually race at speeds that are twice as fast as the fastest auto racers!

Now you too can you too can enjoy air racing as the Unlimiteds and the other racers scream around the course at speeds approaching 500 mph while only 50 ft. above the Nevada desert!

An airshow too!

The nice thing about Reno is that there is always something going on because inbetween each race an airshow act performs.

  • Seeing the Unlimiteds race is the nearest thing to seeing them in their natural environment: combat! You can't see this kind of action anywhere else!

  • Now you can watch the races from the comfort of your own easychair, this means that you don't have to listen to the kids say," are we there yet? "

    • The  Unlimiteds only race once a year, in the same place, Reno, Nevada. So unless you live near Reno, you'll have to incur the expense to travel to watch the races. After you buy this video, you won't have to!

I remember seeing the Reno Air Races and Airshow on the Wide World of Sports when I was a kid. Back then, all we had was a black and white TV and the coverage only lasted for about five minutes, but I knew that air racing was something that I wanted to see in person.

I finally got to go in 1979. I talked a guy at work into driving his VW bus down. Reno was only 625 miles from where we lived, the problem was that there was no direct way there and there were a lot of possible routes taking the backroads. Naturally, we took the wrong route and a trip that  should have taken us 10 hours took 12.  We ended up coasting down a hill into Reno with an empty gas tank at 10:30P.M..
    .
We spent that night in a hotel, but we were on a budget, so we spent the next few nights camped out in vacant lots.

All in all, we had to put up with a lot of hardships, but the Air Races and Airshow lasted for three days ( it's fiver now ) and that made it worth it!

Most of the Unlimiteds are WWII fighters

As long as I have been a pilot, I have always made it a habit to look at the airplanes at each airport that I stop at. I usually see Cessnas and Pipers with a few other brands occasionslly in the mix.

In all the years that I've been looking, I've never seen an ex-military fighter aircraft,  except at airshows.

Even an airshow is lucky to have just one or two of

    these unique aircraft in attendence.

When they fly at airshows they usually make two or three high speed passes in front of the crowd and that's it.

The neat thing about the Reno Air Races and Airshow is that dozens of ex-militaty fighers (unlimiteds) show up and duke it out going as fast as they can go. Reno is the only place in the country that I know of where unlimited aircraft can race each other.

You've probably heard of the Red Bull Air Races and are thinking "hey, what about them?"
I think they are great because they are many new people to the sport of air racing..

Unfortunately, there arn't any unlimiteds in the Red Bull Air Races. For unlimiteds you have to go to Reno.

By the way, some of these Unlimiteds have had millions of dollars spent on them to get them ready for air racing. You get to see and hear the results of all the work and money spent!

Are You Ready To See And Hear The Excitement?

Why do I say that? Because nothing can compare to the sound of supercharged Rolls Royce Merlin and Pratt & Whitney engines as they scream around the pylons at full power. When they are off in the distance, they sound like a bunch of angry bumblebees roaring towards the grandstands. Just the sound alone of the racers and the airshow performers is enough to create excitement!

The element of danger is real...

Yes, Nascar is dangerous, but when the cars stop spinning, the drivers can just step out. If they blow an engine, same result. This is not the case with air racing. Blown engines happen frequently in air racing too. The difference is that a blown engine is just the beginning of a race pilot's problems. He is still going hundreds of miles per hour; he probably can't see because of all the oil on his windsheild; and he still has to land his striken airplane if he wants to live.

  • See a video that is truly in home movie format; not an overproduced Hollywood  type documentary with a music soundtrack (those things drive me crazy!)..

    •   See Lefty Gardner fly one of his last airshow performances in his P-38L Lightning

    •   See Delmar Benjamin do aerobatic in his replica GeeBee R-2

    •  See other world famous airshow acts perform between races (there's always something going on!).

    • See a real wing walker hold on as his pilot performs aerobatic manuevers.

    • Buy this video for yourself or get it as a gift for a friend or relative that's hard to buy for.
I remember about 15 years ago I was in Reno for the air races. While I was playing blackjack, I overheard a guy say to his friend that he figured that a trip to Reno cost about $300.00 per day. The friend agreed that that was about right. I hate to think of what that figure would be today.

This DVD will only cost you a fraction of what it would cost to go to Reno to see the Air Races in person!

Some people buy a DVD, watch it once and never watch it again. This isn't that kind of DVD.
I watch over and over again, you'll want to too!

    Wait...That's Not All...

All of the race planes are rare. All of the Unlimiteds are ex-military fighters. Most are from the WWII era, most are representative of just a handfull of the type that are still flying.

The T-6's/SNJ's are from WWII and the years immediately following the war.

The formula ones are all homebuilt and are all one of a kind.

Included on this DVD for your enjoyment is not only footage of some of theair racing and airshow action, but also some of the airplanes that are too rare to race, so they are displayed for viewing on the ramp. Airplanes on this DVD include:

P-51D's, Sea Furies, F8F Bearcats, F6FHellcat, SBD Dauntless ( one of only three flying ) F4UCorsairs, P-51A, B-25, B-17, P-38L, Yak 3, T-6/SNJ's, Formula Ones, Pitts S2S, BD-10, Gee Bee replica, plus all of the other airshow planes and several modern military planes

Where else could you see so many rare airplanes in one place?.

In addition, this DVD includes the all important people watching scenes. Let's face it, whenever we are at a public event, people watching is an  important part of that event.

    How Much Is This DVD?

This DVD has an hour and 17 minutes of action on it and only costs $14.95! The best parts are that the shipping is free because I pay for it and there is no sales tax because I live in Oregon where there is no sales tax!

.A way to put it into perspective is to think about a night out at the movies. How much do you think you may spend on just the admission and snacks for you and a friend ? I'm willing to bet that it would be a lot more than the cost of this DVD. Also, you can watch the DVD agaun and again.

    Shipping

As I said before, I'll pay for the shipping. Your .DVD will be shipped out within 24 hours of your order by first class mail. We will send it to any address in the U. S that you specify  by first class mail. International orders will be shipped by first class international mail.

    Guarantee

Most items sold on the internet have a 30 day guarantee or if you aere very lucky, you might even get a 90 day guarantee.. With us you will get a full 12 month guarantee. If you decide for any reason within 12 months of your purchase, that you don't want your DVD anymore, send it back in any condition and I will either send you another copy or I'll even send you your money back! No questions asked! In other words, you are fully protected by our 12 month guarantee.

One reason that I'm offering a 12 month guarantee is that this DVD hasn't been out long enough yet for me to collect a lot of testimonials. Testimonials make people feel comfortable about their purchase. I want you to feel comfortable with your purchase, so I'm offering this tremendous guarantee.

    Bonus!!!

When you buy this DVD, I will also include my footage of the 1979 Abbotsford, B.C. airshow. Unfortunately, this footage is silent and it's only about eight minutes long because it was originally shot on Super 8 film.

One of the featured airplanes on this footage is the Avro Vulcan. It was the symbol of the Abbotsford show for years, but it was retired by the RAF in 1984 with only one privately owned  example still flying. .You may have seen one in an old James Bond movie (Thunderball, I believe). One was landed on the ocean and then sank to the bottom where the bad guys stole the nuclear bombs and so on.

This footage is valuable because there are several other planes on it besides the Vulcan that are hard to find or are just plain no longer flying. As I said before, now you can watch these airplanes fly once again from the comfort of your own easychair.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I mentioned before, I had a stroke.  I actually suffered an aneurysm and resulting stroke in  October of 1994. I thought that strokes only happened to old people and I was only 42, but I found out the hard way that strokes can happen at any age. My doctors said that I must have had a congenital defect in one of the arteries in my brain.

I can't work any longer and disability doesn't quite pay all the bills, so I've decided to sell some of my home movies. If you share my passion for fast airplanes, then this DVD is for you!

If you would like to see and hear the excitement of  air racing in a true home movie format  that is not an over-produced Hollywood type documentary, then order now!

Speaking of over-produced Hollywood-type documentaries, I hate it when a video that I really wanted to watch, has music dubed onto it instead of the "real" sound. I promise that this video doesn't have any music covering up the "real" sound.

I'm sorry to have to say that the phenomena of the air races may not last much longer because even in 1994 there were concerns that the Reno suburbs were getting too close to the race course. The race course covers a ten mile circumference through the sagebrush. In addition, the FAA requires evacuation of all buildings within 1500 ft. of the race course. The result is that the race organizers can't possibly raise all the money to buy the land they would need.

Even though the races are only hanging on by a thread, they have been frozen in time on this DVD, so you can still watch them at home anytime you want by popping this DVD into your player.

Since I'm including the Abbotsford Airshow footage, that means that you are getting two shows for less than $7.50 each
    .
    Warm Regards,
    Craig Stanford

P.S. If you would like to experience the excitement of the Reno Air Races and Airshow from the comfort of your own living room and without the expense and hassle of traveling to Reno (remember, you won't have to listen to the kids say, "are we there yet") then this video is for you!  You get to see the Unlimiteds, the T-6/SNJ's, the Formula Ones, the Airshow Acts and the static displays. In addition, you get the very rare footage from the 1979 Abbotsford Airshow as a bonus.
